Are Your Children Being Stalked By An Online Predator?

Cases have happened in the US when teenagers encountered serious problems with networking site. One such teenager even sued MySpace, because of the dangers associated with it. Since you can communicate with someone through files, pictures, multimedia or videos, it is easily to get exploited through these vulnerabilities. Anyone can be anyone else on the Internet, because names don’t have faces; therefore, it is always a danger to lurk around these sites.

The reason for which the teenage girl had sued MySpace was that because she had been assaulted by someone she had met through MySpace. The man had made up a false profile and had contacted the teenager, claiming to be her friend. It is thus no wonder that these lies can perpetuate and can lead to other, serious things.

While the lawsuit from the teenager didn’t win, it did give birth to a debate around the networking sites where you can find anyone on the planet and contact him or her using a fake identity. Therefore, the dangers lurking around are actually a reality. Therefore, while children should be allowed to explore the Internet as much as they want to, there is the need for some sort of protection around.

Protection and truth is indeed required, because the girl in the case above had lied concerning her real age, claiming to be someone else and thus, because MySpace cannot actually verify who is who, it was possible and unfortunate enough to lead to such an event. Therefore, the girl should have been more cautious when selecting a partner for a conversation and this incident is rife around the Internet.

Other similar cases would involve logging into chat rooms, other social networks and since, criminals can easily steal passwords and fake identities, personal information can be easily obtained. Using fake HTML codes from different profiles, the criminals can trace out the location of the user, acquire their password and make use of their personal information. Since children are not familiar with this language, they can be easily taken advantage of.

Such cases appear frequently on the internet and it is thus imperative that you instill some sort of protection on the Internet. As a parent, it is fairly important to ensure the safety of your child and thus protect his privacy. You thus need to restrict internet access and make sure the temptation of it isn’t too much for the child.

Taken into consideration this case of the girl above, it is fairly easy to end up in the same situation and therefore, you would want your child to be protected against such vulnerabilities. Since the chances for some incident to happen are fairly high, it is advisable to take some securing steps right away.
